About These Paintings

As a close observer of landscapes for many years, I seek to unfold the forms before me, to measure the contrasting masses of sky and water, and to define what I see even as I lose myself in its deep spaces.  Alongside my search for definition, is a compelling need to engage with the elusive qualities of changing light and shifting weather— conditions such as sunset, wind, rain, fog, tides, and waves.  These forces of nature are transformative energies, enveloping both me and the landscape as I work.  Paint becomes a necessary means to trace and define indeterminate forms, and embrace the inescapable evanescence of the outdoors.
